Donald Trump’s limited knowledge and total ignorance of basic geography and international affairs has always been a cause for concern in America but this time he has taken things even further by making a series of shocking statements in which he revealed that he wasn’t aware that he was the President of the Virgin Islands.
This latest embarrassing gaffe happened while Trump was addressing the Values Voters Summit, an ultra conservative group that has been described by some civil rights campaigners as a hate group.
In the speech to the conservative group, Trump spoke how he had met with the President of the Virgin Islands and remarked how remarkable the people and the President of the Virgin Islands were.
What were Trump’s exact words? Let’s read part of his speech word for word:
“The Virgin Islands and the President of the Virgin Islands, these are people that are incredible people,” Trump said.
“They suffered gravely and we’ll be there. we are going to be there, we have really, it is not even a question of choice,” he added.
The problem with his claim is that actually he never had a meeting with the President of the Virgin islands because he is the President of the Virgin Islands since the Virgin Islands is United States territory.
The saddest part of the drama is that not only Trump didn’t know that the Virgin Islands is part of the US but also the room full of his supporters and ultra conservatives didn’t know any better.
They did not look to be confused or puzzled when Trump said he had met with the President of the Virgin Islands but rather cheered loudly and some gave him a standing ovation.
It is not the first time Trump and his inner circle have shown total ignorance of basic geography. Attorney General Jeff Sessions shocked America a few months ago when he revealed that he didn’t know that Hawaii was part of the United States.
