Hollywood star, martial artist and musician Steven Seagal has faced immediate backlash on Social Media after harshly criticizing the NFL take a knee protest.
Speaking from Russia where Steven Seagal has permanently relocated after Vladmir Putin granted him full Russian Citizenship, the movie star told his interviewer on Live TV link that the athletes who took a knee at the NFL games to protest against Police brutality and racism were completely wrong and should be punished.
Seagal said he supports Trump’s suggestion that NFL players who take a knee should be fired from their jobs and that people should boycott the NFL games.
“I believe in free speech, I believe that everyone is entitled to their own opinion. But I don’t agree that they should hold the United States of America or the world hostage by taking a venue where people are tuning in to watch a football game and imposing their political views,” said the actor on Good Morning Britain. “I think it’s outrageous, I think it’s a joke. It’s disgusting.”
Piers Morgan pointed out that as Seagal, 65, pushed patriotism but he was speaking out from Moscow, where he was granted citizenship last year. The Republican action star has long been a vocal supporter of Vladimir Putin, calling him “one of the greatest world leaders” and defending Russia’s 2014 annexation of Crimea.
Seagal has developed a close friendship with Vladmir Putin in what the media has dubbed a very unusual “bromance” and pundits say he is enjoying his life in Russia and may never return to the United States.
Reports say the duo train together and practice Judo and Yoga and that Putin has introduced Seagal to Russian theatre, art, culture and to fine restaurants.
“His life is so comfortable here and he’d be crazy to return to America,” a reporter of a Russian newspaper The Gazette was quoted saying.
