A letter Obama left for Trump as he walked out of the White House for the last time has been released to the media, and it contains key pointers that could have guided Trump to avoid the sagas and the melt downs at the White House as seen in the past several months.
But now, a Political Analyst based in Washington DC says that it’s highly likely that Trump simply kept the letter in the drawer and never read it.
“It’s a missed opportunity,” said Kyle Andrews PhD. “The letter is now publicly available and everyone can see how this highly reflective and generous letter could have guided Trump to avoid all the scandals and outbursts that have shocked America in the past few months. Of course only Trump knows if he read the letter or not but telling by the events of the past few months that culminated in the Charlottesville riots, we can speculate that Trump is failing to keep Americans united, missing out on the tips in the letter on how to unite America and keep moving forward,” he said.
The letter obtained and released by CNN written by out-going President Barack Obama to incoming President Trump, reveals some life lessons Mr. Obama imparted on the newly elected commander-in-chief, while congratulating him on what he called a “remarkable run.”
“Millions have placed their hopes in you, and all of us, regardless of party, should hope for expanded prosperity and security during your tenure. This is a unique office, without a clear blueprint for success, so I don’t know that any advice from me will be particularly helpful. Still, let me offer a few reflections from the past 8 years,” writes Mr. Obama to Mr. Trump.
The 44th president goes on to list some advice to Mr. Trump, including to “build more ladders of success” for hard working families and their children.
“American leadership in this world really is indispensable. It’s up to us, through action and example, to sustain the international order that’s expanded steadily since the end of the Cold War, and upon which our own wealth and safety depend,” Mr. Obama adds.
Trump acknowledged receipt of the letter while speaking to a reporter sometime after his inauguration.
“I just went to the Oval Office and found this beautiful letter from President Obama,” Mr. Trump said. “It was really very nice of him to do that. And we will cherish that. We will keep that,” said Mr. Trump of the letter.
It is unknown if Trump has really followed the “advice and tips” in the letter, or if he read it entirely although some Republicans have already complained after the letter was published by CNN that it did not provide advice to Trump and was a mere reflective letter.
