Senator John McCain, a senior Republican politician, distinguished war hero and former Presidential hopeful has ripped into Trump, directly commenting on the President’s instability saying that Trump is “always poorly informed and impulsive.”
“We must respect his authority and constitutional responsibilities. We must, where we can, cooperate with him. But we are not his subordinates. We don’t answer to him. We answer to the American people,” McCain wrote in a Washington Post op-ed.
“We must be diligent in discharging our responsibility to serve as a check on his power. And we should value our identity as members of Congress more than our partisan affiliation,” he continued.
McCain is not the first senior Republican to distance himself from Trump’s wayward behaviour and attitude and to explicitly explain that he serves the American people and not Trump.
Secretary of State Rex Tillerson shocked a stunned Fox News reporter who asked him if he represents and supports Trump’s values.
“We work to advance America’s values, not Trump’s values,” he said. The Fox News reporter stunned by the response asked him for further clarification and directly if stands with Trump’s values or if he believes Trump speaks for the American Government and American people.
“The President speaks for himself,” he fired back at the reporter, directly suggesting that he completely disagreed with the President’s remarks and speech. The interview was about the Charlottesville incident.
Trump supporter immediately went onto social media to accuse Rex Tillerson of not supporting the President and demanding that he apologises. Rex Tillerson has stood by his statements and has not apologized, nor has he said he will support Trump’s “both sides” speech on Charlottesville.
In the latest Washington Post opinion piece, McCain clearly explains how he does not believe in Trump’s values or agenda. McCain famously voted against Trump’s attempt to repeal ObamaCare, a vote which stalled and ruined Trump’s chance of destroying the Affordable Healthcare Act.
McCain has also slammed Trump for banning Transgenders in the military, saying that Trump’s discrimination of transgenders and other groups of people has no place in modern America.
“Our service men and women serve with honour and loyalty. They put their lives on the line to protect all Americans and we should not discriminate or judge them according to their gender or sexual orientation,” said John McCain.
In the editorial, McCain called for “a return to order” pointing out that Trump’s Presidency is scandal ridden even before he finished one year in office.
