Trump has gained a new enemy- Jeff Sessions, and he will never forgive him for this. It is unbelievable but that’s how Trump operates, he sees every disagreement as a betrayal even when based on facts, principle and on laws.
Trump claims that Jeff Sessions has been so unfair to him and had he known, he’d never have picked him as Attorney General but the reality is that Jeff Sessions is doing the right and legal thing. By recusing himself from the Trump-Russia collusion investigation, the Attorney General is making a statement as a man who understands the law. He is insinuating that even as Attorney General, he will not try to use his influence to interfere with or influence the investigation.
Trump said in an interview with The New York Times that Sessions had been “very unfair” to him by recusing himself from overseeing the Russia collusion probe.
“Sessions should have never recused himself, and if he was going to recuse himself, he should have told me before he took the job and I would have picked somebody else,” Trump said.
“How do you take a job and then recuse yourself? If he would have recused himself before the job, I would have said ‘thanks, Jeff, but I’m not going to take you,” he continued. “It’s extremely unfair – and that’s a mild word – to the president.”
Trump also mentioned that Jeff Sessions had given him “zero warning” before recusing himself.
Attorney General Jeff Sessions recused himself from investigation into Russia’s role in the 2016 election and possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Moscow in March, after it was revealed that he failed to disclose to the Senate two meetings with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak while he was a surrogate for Trump’s campaign.
Many political insiders have long speculated that Sessions has gotten weary of the Russia probe and the new revelations that keep popping up. His testimony at the Senate hearing was deemed a “lackluster performance” when he was grilled and questioned by Senator Kamala Harris.
Many Washington insiders immediately started speculating after Sessions’ testimony that his perfomance at the Senate hearing showed that the Attorney general wanted to distance himself from the Russia probe and did not want anything to do with it.
This recusal will be a big blow to the Trump team who were betting on Jeff Sessions to give them much support during the probe.
Pundits have started speculating that Trump will sooner or later fire Jeff sessions, by announcing it on Twitter!
