Trump’s lawyer has left millions of Americans in total shock when he brazenly blamed the Secret Service for Donald Trump Jr’s meeting with a Russian lawyer said to be linked to the Kremlin and a Russian-American lobbyist who is a former Russian KGB officer who apparently is an expert in the “dark arts.” The other people who attended this meeting are yet to be identified.
Donald Trump Jr, after learning that The New York times had learned of his meetings with the Russians went on to acknowledge that he met in New York with Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya after he was told by his contact that she had damaging information about Hillary Clinton. Trump Jr eventually released the emails relating to the meeting and this has caused much speculation of collusion and communication between Trump’s campaign team and Russian agents.
However, Trump’s lawyers has instead gone on the defensive and said that all that can be blamed on the Secret service as they shouldn’t have let Donald Trump Jr meet with the Russians.
“Well, I wonder why the Secret Service, if this was nefarious, why the Secret Service allowed these people in. The president had Secret Service protection at that point, and that raised a question with me,” Jay Sekulow, a member of the president’s legal team, said on Sunday on the ABC news program “This Week.”
However, this bizarre accusation and shifting of blame onto the Secret Service has back fired badly as the Secret service emailed their own statement on the issue.
Secret Service spokesman Mason Brayman said the younger Trump was not under Secret Service protection at the time of the meeting, which included Trump’s son and two senior campaign officials.
“Donald Trump, Jr. was not a protectee of the USSS in June, 2016. Thus we would not have screened anyone he was meeting with at that time,” the statement said.
Trump’s lawyer Jay Sekulow will be embarrassed to learn this and really he should be ashamed of trying to blame the Russian-Collusion meetings on the Secret Service who work day and night to protect the President, his family and his administration.
